CHC40312 Certificate IV in Disability

CHC40312 Certificate IV in Disability will give you the essential grounding to provide valuable care for people with disabilities. Through this course you will be well equipped with the skills and knowledge to support people with disabilities to enhance their ability to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance and community participation.

Aims of the Course

This course is designed for those who are interested in working with people with disabilities and pursuing a fulfilling career in the disability services industry.

Admission Criteria

You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent or mature age students. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:

  • A qualification at Certificate III level or higher OR
  • 2 years industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.

Age 18 years old and above.

  • For mature age students who do not meet the academic qualifications above will be considered for admission and need to attend an interview.

Be able to use and respond to written language, including some unfamiliar material in a variety of contexts. Successfully complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (LLN) .

Obtain a satisfactory Police Clearance Certificate, Working with Children Check for Work Experience Placement, as applicable.


For blended delivery the student must have access to a computer with internet and basic computer skills.

Mode of Delivery

This program is available in face to face (4 weeks workshop) delivery mode in Melbourne (Heidelberg) and Sydney campuses:

  1. Class room learning at campus;
  2. Self-directed learning at campus;
  3. Simulation-based training and assessment at campus;
  4. Work Experience Placement in an aged care setting - these can be arranged by either the student or we can find one for you; and
  5. Free Manual Handling and Apply First Aid professional development courses.

We are conducting workshops in Footscray (a suburb 5km west of Melbourne) every Tuesday and Friday evenings for this course. These workshops are designed to give extra support to those who are studying this course in online or blended mode.

This program is available in blended delivery mode:

  1. Self-directed online theory
  2. Simulation-based training and assessment at campus; and
  3. Work Experience Placement in an aged care setting - these can be arranged by either the student or we can find one for you.

The online component can be completed in a maximum period of one year.

This course is also available as a traineeship for funded students. If you elect to undertake this course as a Traineeship, please provide details of your employer.
Traineeships are delivered as follows:

  • Online self-directed study.
  • Simulation based training and assessment at workplace.
  • Work experience.

All theory/ simulation training will occur in the workplace for 2 hours every fortnight over a period of 6-12 months.

Workshops are held every Saturday at IHNA’s Heidelberg campus, every Wednesday in Werribee, every Tuesday and Friday in Footscray for this course.

The application process involves: application, interview (including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test), payment and confirmation of enrolment. Applicants must successfully complete each stage in order to enrol.
